Student Lucy Bradshaw can be seen standing on the right. Lovill Home was a women's residence hall with 72 rooms, as well as parlors, society halls, a library, rest rooms, and study halls. Women were also housed in Newland Hall during the summer months for a higher fee. The two summer sessions of Appalachian Training School were part of the normal school program, and focused on training elementary school teachers and allowing teachers to obtain, renew, or change the class of their teaching certificates.
